Show Me The Place - Songs 2012

Show Me The Place - Songs 2012 is the first in a series of mixes highlighting some of the new albums released so far this year that I've been listening to. Nothing is ranked and these are not necessarily my favorite songs from the album but rather a mostly mellow moody collection that flows nicely together in a mix for some quiet evenings sitting on the porch.

The mix starts our with a haunting song from the great Leonard Cohen. It's hard to believe he is still putting out quality albums and this one ranks up there with his best.

I was happy to be able to include some songs from a few of my favorite bands The Shins, Nada Surf, Winterpills, Dr. Dog, Shearwater, Islands and Tindersticks. I recently discovered the Swedish duo First Aid Kit and this is a wonderful album of Americana sounding folk. Plants and Animals has an impressive new album and I always get a new Kathleen Edwards, Damien Jurado or Mark Lanegan album. I was probably most excited about the New Multitudes album by four artists I routinely collect. Jay Farrar, Will Johnson, Anders Parker and Yim Yames have created a wonderful collection of Woody Guthrie interpretations of unpublished songs. The photo here is them performing these songs.

All albums were released in 2012.
