My Transistor Radio
As a teenager I took my transistor radio everywhere I went. It provided a soundtrack for my life. I had an early 60’s Sony radio with a black leather case. It looked very much like the one in this photo but AM only.
I thought it was interesting that the first transistor
radios were made in Indianapolis in 1954 and sold for about $50. The
manufacturers thought they would sell millions to American families for their
bomb shelters. It didn’t happen and then the Japanese copied the technology,
built them really cheap and marketed them to American kids. The rest is
history.
